Jonathan Hay

Former Australian Rules Footballer

Jonathan Hay’s ten year AFL career with Hawthorn and North Melbourne came to an end two years ago.

Originally from Kalgoorlie, Jonathan found himself in Melbourne as a teenager and a rising star in the national game.

Jonathan has spoken publicly about living with depression and in ‘Body and Brain Overhaul’ is open about the impact the pressure of being a national football identity had on his life.

Following his professional football career, Jonathan started working in the building industry and joined a suburban football team to keep involved in the game he loves.

Then, just as everything was looking up for Jonathan, bad luck struck.  Whilst leaping to take a mark in training, Jonathan felt his archilles snap.

As a former elite athlete, the stress of not being able to ‘move’, following surgery, has had a signficant impact on Jonathan mentally and physically.  As a result Jonathan is keen to get back into shape in body and in mind.

Presenter Paul Taylor says : ‘I want to work with Jonathan on getting out of the spiral of depression, get him back in control of his mind and body, and set him on track for the rest of his life.’
