Trainer

Why did you become a PT?
I have developed a wealth of experience with over 20 years in sports and fitness. Being active has been an integral part of my life since the early years, and after studying PE in high school, human movement and function became a hobby and a dedicated interest.

I became a trainer to further my knowledge of exercise physiology with the aim of assisting myself in my various sporting pursuits. However I’ve learnt and experienced so much more. The fitness industry has helped me grow and I greatly enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience. Knowing I can be a catalyst for positive change in people's lives is very rewarding and something I strive for everyday.

What is your fitness education background?
Having originally qualified as a trainer in 1996, I spent a few years working part time in a city gym only to find myself faced with great opportunities in my full time career. After taking a lengthy breather from the industry, although never losing the desire, I re-qualified in 2007.

Certified in kettlebell training, kick boxing, shoulder rehabilitation as well as being a Centrality Certified Health Consultant, with a keen interest in nutrition, I am committed to continuing my fitness education and expanding my knowledge base.

What is your PT work background and experience?
I’ve spent time in different gymnasiums and female only environments, but have gained most of my experience at Genesis Caulfield and also as owner/operator of ‘Natural Body Health and Fitness’ mobile training.

What interests do you have away from work?
In my down time, you can catch me working through laps at Albert Park Lake, weather permitting of course, or switching off on my comfy couch with a good book or in front of my new big screen. In the evenings I arrive home to my adoring husband who’s often waiting patiently with a hug and a meal, and I have a large extended family who regularly get together to enjoy each others company.

Most inspirational & admired individual and why?
I am constantly blown away by the selflessness of my husband and fellow fire fighters who would put most of us to shame with their courage and dedication. Regularly giving up their precious time and risking their own lives to save others is truly inspirational.

What are you future career aspirations?
Future career aspirations include furthering my knowledge of different training concepts and tools, and growing a successful personal training business. I hope to continue my association with Genesis and carry on assisting my clients in achieving their goals and ambitions. Having injured my shoulder 4 years ago, I would like to further my specialization in shoulder and injury rehabilitation, break into athletics coaching and expand my knowledge in nutrition and Buteyko (breathing techniques for asthma sufferers). All in a hard days work.

Why did you choose to work for Genesis?
Genesis has an exceptional reputation within the fitness industry as an organization that delivers innovative fitness and lifestyle solutions. Why wouldn’t I want to be involved?

What are the common issues you experience with clients?
There are a number of common issues experienced by most of my clients. It is no surprise that most people seeking the assistance of a personal trainer require help to stay motivated and committed to an exercise regime, but I am seeing a rise in the number of people who are “time poor”.

Lifestyles are becoming increasingly demanding, struggling to juggle work and family commitments. Unfortunately, good health and nutrition become neglected. With the rise of obesity and related disease in our society, I am committed to the wellbeing of my clients. I spend a lot of time designing programs to ensure the most effective use of training and exercise time is achieved while encouraging good basic nutrition.

I generally keep my sessions simple, using traditional training methods ensuring my client’s needs and goals are met. Having now experienced and trained in EMT, I’m able to bring so much more, including a network of wonderful healthcare practitioners. I like to offer an intense but fun and enjoyable session, with a supportive and motivational approach.
